TeknoBGT: How to Compress a Video So That It Can Be Sent Via Email

How to compress a video? Well, compressing videos is very necessary to reduce the size of video files so that they can be sent to email or other communication media. Imagine, there has just made an amazing video or screen recording and you want to share it via email with your friends or colleagues. As soon as you attach a file and hit send, your email system does not allow you to send a video.

Video files can range from 10 MB for a one-minute video, to a hundred MB or more for longer videos, making them too large to attach to an email.

Before 2004, you had two options for sharing large video files — copy the files to a USB flash drive and give them to your colleagues, or use a sharing service like YouSendIt.

Currently, we have more options to compress and send large videos via email.

3 WAYS TO COMPRESS A VIDEO SO THAT IT CAN BE CRITIQUED VIA EMAIL

CREATE A ZIP FILE.

The most common way to compress a video is to convert it into a zip file. The file will be reduced in size, and its quality will not be affected. Although it is a quick and easy way to compress a video, you won’t notice any major changes in file size. This feature is available for both Windows and Mac users:

  • Right-click on the video file:
  • Windows users, select “Send to> Compressed (zipped) folder
  • Mac users, select “Compress name”

MAKE VIDEOS SHORTER AND SMALLER WITH IMOVIE ON MAC.

Most Mac devices now come with iMovie, a free movie editing tool from Apple. With iMovie, you can shorten your video and send only a portion of it, obviously reducing the file size. In addition, iMovie contains features that prepare your files for emails that help compress them for delivery:

  • Open iMovie and click the arrow at the top left of the menu bar.
  • Select the file you want to import on your computer and click “My Movies”.
  • Select the part of the video you want to use and click “+” (Add the part to the movie).
  • To export, click “File> Share> Email” and select “Small” to reduce the file size.
  • The smaller file will now open in an empty email, ready to be sent.

USE CLOUD SERVICES.

Dropbox, Google Drive, One Drive, and more are cloud services that allow you to easily share large video files. They all work more or less the same way, by first registering an account then downloading a desktop client, or accessing the service online. Then you can upload a video file and share the generated link via email with your colleagues or friends.

You can also upload the video to cloud storage and get a download link for the video. Then, give the link to the person you want. However, make sure that the link doesn’t spread so that the video you send isn’t misused.

So that’s some ways that you can try to make the video smaller and in the end it can be sent through various media you want such as e-mail or whatsapp. This method will make it very easy for you and will also keep the quality of the video you send good and high quality.
